About the Art Prize

 

The prestigious Art Prize, which is sponsored by the international oil services company Hunting PLC, is a Texas-wide competition open to established artists, talented newcomers, and promising amateurs.

Since the prize’s inception in 1981 – where it emerged as one of Great Britain’s leading art competitions before moving to Houston in 2006 – the Prize has earned a reputation for identifying distinguishing artists. Its $50,000 first prize is among the most generous in North America.

Any artist who resides in Texas and is 18 years of age or older can register to participate through the electronic sign up form. Artists may submit a single work of their choosing, and winners are determined through a two-tiered jury process. The winning piece will be announced May 3, 2008, at a gala in Houston.

At the May event, Hunting will exhibit the work of all finalists, and guests can purchase art that is on display.
